Sunday Services

We meet every Sunday at our Church premises. Our usual pattern of services includes:

First Sunday (9.30am)	Breakfast Church - we all stay together for breakfast and explore a Bible story through drama and discussion.
Second Sunday (10.30am)	Communion service - as part of our worship we celebrate Holy Communion (gluten free bread and non-alcoholic wine). Activities are provided for children.
Third Sunday (10.30am)	Hunger Lunch - as part of our worship we learn about charities near and far that focus on food poverty and disaster relief. A simple lunch is served after the service. Activities are provided for children.
Fourth Sunday (10.30am)	Communion service - as part of our worship we celebrate Holy Communion (gluten free bread and non-alcoholic wine). Activities are provided for children.
Fifth Sunday (11.00am)	Praise and worship service - we celebrate and give thanks for all that God is doing in our lives, our community and our world.

 

All our services

Begin with a warm welcome and the opportunity for chat over a hot drink or juice. (We pride ourselves on decent coffee!) This also means that people start arriving up to 20 minutes before the start of the service.

Our worship space is normally arranged around coffee tables, providing a relaxed, homely feel, which contributes to our informal style of worship.

Within each service we will sing some hymns/songs, pray, read the Bible and reflect on how it affects us. Sometimes we share experiences of where we have seen God at work as well as sharing news and notices, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church.

The services last between an hour and an hour and a quarter.

There is normally coffee left over so catching up with one another continues with a fresh cuppa after the service.

 

Breakfast Church

On the first Sunday of every month we meet at 9.30am, with the addition of breakfast rolls to our usual refreshments. This is followed by our family-orientated service. Young and old together explore a Bible story through a mildly amusing drama and chats around the coffee tables. This is a great opportunity for those who are curious about the Christian faith to learn a little more in a very relaxed atmosphere.

 

Communion Services

On the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month our service includes an act of Holy Communion. Here we remember the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, as we break bread and drink wine.

We have no set way or specific wording around these acts of remembering, though our normal practice is for the bread and wine to be served to you in your seats. We use individual communion cups to serve non-alcoholic wine and the bread is always gluten free. Anyone who is seeking to follow and love Jesus is free to share in our act of Holy Communion.

 

Hunger Lunch

The third Sunday of the month is known as Hunger Lunch Sunday. Around 12noon we join together for soup and a sandwich and support a local or global charity that seek to provide relief for the poorest and most vulnerable. As we give thanks for our simple lunch we remember those who often have no food for their table. We encourage people to give to the nominated charity for the month an amount equivalent to a Sunday roast lunch.

We learn about the work of the nominated charity for the month within our Service. This enables us to pray for their work and enables those who cannot stay for the lunch to still hear about the work and financially contribute.

 

Fifth Sunday

We take our discipleship (following Jesus) seriously at Hooe Baptist Church and understand that this needs a certain level of support and accountability. Therefore when a 5th Sunday arises we take this opportunity to meet in 2s or 3s before our half-hour praise and worship service at 11am.

Resources are available to help these groups, as they reflect honestly with each other in the four ‘S’ of discipleship:
Soul – How’s it going with God?
Study – How are you growing and maturing in faith?
Serving – How are you serving God, within and outside the church?
Sharing – How are you sharing your faith with others?

 

KidZone

On the 2nd/3rd and 4th weeks of each month, activities are held during the service for our younger children (aged 0-11). They start with their parent or adult-carer in the service. Someone will announce when it is time for them to go to their activities during the service. Whichever Sunday you come, you can expect a warm welcome; great worship; relevant preaching based in the Word of God and a friendly group of people ready to learn more about what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

Practical information

For all our services, car parking is available at Hooe Primary Academy (directly opposite the church). Cross the road (using the zebra crossing) and walk up the drive to the building at the top.

As we enjoy tea, coffee and juice before the service begins, have a chat or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access for anyone who needs it and a disabled toilet on site. We are a Sight Loss Friendly Church.
